High Country Gold: Omeo's 114km Alpine Trails Progress into Stage 2

High Country Gold: Omeo's 114km Alpine Trails Progress into Stage 2

The High Country of Victoria is about to get a massive gravity fed upgrade. With the first 50km+ of Stage 1 already a massive success, the legendary town of Omeo is actively constructing Stage 2 to bring the network to its full 114-kilometre alpine master plan.

Omeo is a historic alpine gold-mining town, but in 2026, it is known for building one of the most spectacular, world-class mountain bike networks in Australia. Nestled deep in the rugged East Gippsland region, the Omeo Mountain Bike Park is a massive collaboration between the East Gippsland Shire Council, World Trail, and Common Ground. It is designed to offer everything from flowing, beginner-friendly green descents to raw, gravity-fed double-black-diamond rock slabs.

What is coming in Stage 2?

While Stage 1 gave us high-speed, rolling flow lines like "Stampede," Stage 2 is all about the massive alpine descents, rugged rock features, and technical singletrack:

  • Mount Sam Descents: Incredible, long-distance gravity lines starting from the high peaks of Mount Sam, offering hundreds of vertical metres of descending.
  • Technical Granite Rock Slabs: Giant granite boulder fields are being shaped into natural rock roll-overs, technical drops, and steep, technical chutes.
  • The Town Trailhead: Upgrades are currently underway for custom trailhead facilities, a dedicated bike wash, and progressive skills parks right in the town centre.

Dial Your Cockpit for Alpine Vert

Riding steep, high-country alpine trails like Mt Sam is highly demanding on your upper body and your cockpit setup. Hand fatigue, arm pump, and steering deflection are the enemies when descending hundreds of vertical metres over technical rocks.

Upgrade your setup for Omeo's vertical drop:

Pack the car, book a high-country escape, and go get some of that fresh Omeo alpine dirt.

Send it.
