Review: The 2026 Pivot Firebird — The Stealth Enduro Weapon
The Verdict: A monster truck that thinks it's a mountain goat. The ultimate long-travel enduro weapon for 2026.
Pivot has never been a brand to play it safe, and the 2026 Firebird is proof. With 165mm of rear travel and a massive 170mm fork, this bike is built for the rowdiest tracks in the country—think Maydena's steepness or the high-speed chatter of Bright. But thanks to the wizardry of the DW-Link suspension, it manages to climb with a level of efficiency that genuinely shames most bikes in the 'all-mountain' category.
What you get
The 2026 Carbon Team XX build is a masterclass in premium integration. The frame is stiffer and more refined than ever, featuring Pivot's legendary hollow-core carbon construction. It's light, it's stealthy, and it's built to win races.
- Suspension: Fox Factory Float X2 (165mm) / Fox Factory 38 (170mm)
- Drivetrain: SRAM XX Eagle Transmission (Wireless)
- Brakes: Shimano XTR 4-Piston
- Wheels: Reynolds Blacklabel Carbon
- Weight: ~14.1 kg (Size Medium)
- Price: ~$14,500 AUD
How it rides
On the descents, the Firebird is unflappable. The DW-Link suspension offers incredible mid-stroke support, meaning you can push into berms and pop off side-hits without the bike feeling like a soggy sponge. It carries momentum through square-edged hits with absolute ease, making the roughest Australian rock gardens feel significantly smaller than they are.
But the real surprise is the climbing. Pivot has organized the anti-squat to provide a firm pedaling platform even with the shock wide open. You can tackle technical, steep Victorian climbs without the front end wandering or the rear end wallowing. It’s an enduro bike that doesn't make you dread the fire-road grind back to the top.
Weak spots
The only real downside is the price of entry—at over $14k for the top-tier build, it's a serious investment. Additionally, the vertical shock orientation looks modern, but it does mean there's limited room for large water bottles on smaller frame sizes.
The Smart Move
If you're spending Firebird money, your cockpit needs to be flawless. Pivot's stock setups are high-quality, but customizing your contact points is the only way to truly make the bike yours. Plus, you'll want to protect that premium carbon chassis from the inevitable rock strikes.
- Cockpit: Add some 'Trail Bling' with our RISK Titanium Stem Bolts and a matching ZTTO CNC Top Cap Kit.
- Grips: Swap the standard rubbers for our dual-density Bucklos Lock-On Grips for maximum feedback.
- Protection: This frame is too beautiful to scratch. Wrap it in our ENLEE 3D Honeycomb Frame Protection Kit before your first shuttle day.
- Hardware: Swap your stock bars for a stiffer WAKE Alloy Handlebar for immediate high-speed leverage.
Verdict: 9.5/10
The 2026 Pivot Firebird is arguably the most versatile long-travel bike on the market. It offers World Cup level descending performance without the typical climbing penalties. If you want one bike that can win an enduro race on Saturday and do a 40km epic on Sunday, this is the one.
