Marin Rift Zone XR 2026 Review — The Ultimate Party Machine?
TL;DR: The bike that refuses to take life seriously
The Marin Rift Zone has always been the "cult classic" of short-travel trail bikes. For 2026, the XR (Extra Rad) version takes that formula and adds a big ol' dose of Marzocchi-flavoured attitude. It’s 130mm out back, 140mm up front, and 100% focused on how much air you can get off a tree root.
What you get
The XR spec is the smartest in the range. You get a Marzocchi Z1 fork (the red ones!) and a Bomber CR coil shock. Yes, a coil shock on a 130mm bike. It tells you exactly what this bike is for: smashing turns and finding side-hits.
How it rides
It’s not the fastest climber. The MultiTrac suspension is efficient, but the coil shock adds some weight. But once you point it down? It’s a riot. It’s poppy, agile, and feels like it has way more than 130mm of travel when things get chunky. It’s the kind of bike that makes you want to manual through puddles and skid into corners.
The weak spots
The stock tyres are a bit "meh" for loose Aussie conditions, and the cockpit bits (bars/stems) are generic OEM stuff that feels a bit stiff. It's the first thing we'd swap.
The smart upgrade
Swap the generic cockpit for something with a bit more soul. Our WAKE Alloy Riser Bars combined with a Lunje Stem saves weight and gives you a much better feel for what the front wheel is doing. Plus, a set of ENLEE Pro-Grip Pedals matches the "unbreakable" vibe of the Marin perfectly.
Verdict
If you want a clinical XC race bike, look elsewhere. If you want a bike that turns every local loop into a highlight reel, the Rift Zone XR is it.
Rating: 8.5/10 — The fun-per-dollar king.
- ENLEE Enduro Flat Pedals — Tough enough for the Rift Zone.
- Bucklos Lock-On Grips — Upgrade that OEM cockpit.
